What works best - a combination tool or a tensioner and sealer?

The above is a common question that most businesses face when deciding what kit is best for them. The answer to this is that it depends on your preference, and it really is 50/50 in terms of the method chosen by businesses. This is further explained below.

To tension and seal strapping, a business can either opt for a combination tool, or opt for a separate sealer and tensioner. Metal seals are also required in both cases (unless a friction weld strapping tool is used instead, which heat seals the strapping).

A combination tool is effectively a combination of a sealer and tensioner in one tool, avoiding the need to switch tools during the strapping process. The strap simply feeds in and can be tensioned and sealed (with the use of metal seals) in one process. This can make strapping easier, but can also be more cumbersome than using a separate sealer/tensioner, as a combination tool is much heavier and larger than the individual tools themselves.

Alternatively a separate tensioner and sealer tool can be used. The advantage of this method is that these tools are more lightweight than a tensioner, and easier to use with speed, although the switching of tools is naturally required during the strapping process. Furthermore, each tool can be replaced as required as a result of wear & tear or mis-use, whereas with a combination tool the entire tool needs replacing if an element faces wear & tear, or if the tool is dropped and breaks as a result.
